Van’s Favorite Spaces and Places in New Bern
Van and his lovely wife Ann are amateur foodies and enjoy their time in restaurants! Morgan’s Tavern & Grill is Van’s favorite casual restaurant in New Bern. As an added bonus to the awesome outdoor patio, it is pet friendly and even features a 4-legged friends menu that Snickers and Sadie (their 4-legged children) gave rave reviews! Van says don’t miss the crab dip, drunken haddock, mahi tacos, or one of many awesome signature burgers!
Also on Van’s restaurant list is Cypress Hall for fine dining (don’t miss the nightly specials here) and Captain Ratty’s for the BEST shrimp and grits. Fun fact, Captain Ratty’s is owned by our conference caterer and community leader, Chef Smoke!
After grabbing a bite to eat, Van says to enjoy the plentiful shopping all available in walking distance downtown New Bern. His favorites are the Life is Good Store and Nautical Wheelers, but there are plenty more to choose if these don’t fit your style!
Now that your tummy is full and you have shopped til you dropped, you HAVE to check out the Birthplace of Pepsi Store, formerly known as Bradham’s Drug Store. It’s a vintage soda shop, Pepsi museum, and all things Pepsi merchandise paradise all in one place! Van suggests a bag of popcorn for an afternoon snack with an ice cold glass bottle Pepsi!
For a yummy ice cream treat to end your downtown adventures, Van suggests Bear City Fudge Company for a delicious cone of hand dipped ice cream.
Van and Ann are huge fans of small towns and New Bern is a small town that has it all; situated on the Neuse River, but it has a quaint coastal vibe! Walk along the river walk and take in the sights of the water and boats for a relaxing evening or morning stroll. Van welcomes you to New Bern and hopes you will “Try On” everything it has to offer during District Conference!
